Here’s what’s going on in the Ukraine while the U.S. media has been focused on the threat posed by the terrorist group known as ISIS (or ISIL/Islamic State).
1. According to the L.A. Times, an average of 36 civilians are dying each day.

2. Russian troops and Ukrainian troops are skirmishing around the border and fortifying positions.

3. In response to recent aggression where armored Russian columns entered their country, Ukraine is requesting full-fledged membership in NATO.

4. And Putin just compared Kiev’s desire to reclaim their cities taken by Russian separatists to the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II.

5. Oh yeah, and if that wasn’t enough rhetoric, Putin visited a youth camp in Moscow and told his impressionable audience, “Thank God, I think no one is thinking of unleashing a large-scale conflict with Russia. I want to remind you that Russia is one of the leading nuclear powers.” He followed up with, “It’s best not to mess with us.”
6. The State Department is paying attention, too. Because they just issued a warning urging Americans to avoid traveling to Ukraine.
With several lives being lost daily and a battle that keeps intensifying, we can only hope that the Ukrainian and Russian conflict dies down. Because the last thing the world needs is for this to erupt into a larger regional crisis.
