Nigeria’s medal hopeful, Blessing Okagbare has qualified for the second round of the Women’s 100 meters event at the ongoing Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The African fastest women breast the tape on the dot of 11.20second to set the heats fastest record at the Games. Team England sprinters Sophie Papps, Asha Philip and Bianca Williams had all also qualified from the 100m heats to reach the second round at the Games.
Although the Jamaican sprinters were very strong, with Veronica Campbell-Brown, Schillonie Calvert and Kerron Stewart all winning their heats, the fastest time was set by Nigeria’s Okagbare in heat five of 11.20s.
Papps came third in heat four in a time of 11:53seconds, Philips set 11:47seconds, while Williams was only just edged out by Stewart with a quick time of 11:37seconds.
