We are talking about Christian girls here, so my perspective is that the shallowness spewing from several pulpits and Bible Study times, Conferences and so on, is not helping these young ones learn to develop the correct mindset for walking with God. So, at the point of trying to get married, it shows. Yes, many of them are confused. However, no one really has anyone to blame for his or her confusion. So, they need to learn to seek help from godly women and people who can show them the way before the question of marriage or who to marry comes up. Yes, it is possible to court for that long. However, the question is, is it advisable or is it the best? Certainly, long courtship of that length of years should be avoided except when the reason(s) for that long stay or waiting lies squarely outside the control of the intending couple. It could be health, parental and so on. Ordinarily, it is advisable to wait till you are ready for marriage and when you find someone to marry, there is no need to elongate the courtship because the disadvantages are many. So, make it reasonably and acceptably long enough to avoid the negative sides of unnecessary long courtships.                                                                                            </span><br /> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">3. During courtship, intending couples quarrel because they are human beings. So, I don't think we should see it as one demonic thing or try to use it to determine whether God is part of the relationship or not. If two people are sincere enough to want to commit their future to one another  they will need to know that there will be some re-shaping on both sides and it is sometimes not as sweet as we would want it to be. This is why marriage is not for boys and girls. Courtship is certainly a good time to test the young man's maturity, his patience, sincerity of love and readiness to care and protect and so on. It is time for the sister to see through the man and decide that she is ready to submit to him at all times and so on. Trying to get our minds re-aligned into these, sometimes, comes with disagreements and yes, times of quarreling. However, what should be a sign that there is something wrong is when their is persistent bitterness, unforgiveness, clear and consistency in deceit or lying, and a great sense of fear or insecurity for the future of the intended marriage. When a time of courtship is bedeviled with consistency in quarreling without genuine reconciliation - no one accepts or takes responsibility and  apologizes and seek forgiveness, bitterness and rubbing shoulders becomes the norm, then, my counsel will be,  carefully negotiate your way out, but that should be after seeking counsel and help from a respected and truly godly person.                          </span><br /> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">You may likely have insight into the questions discussed above. I was with my team of twelve, six guys and six girls, preparing for a national sporting competition. Our coach said, “Okay, whoever would like to encourage someone can go ahead.” *Silence* and *More silence.* Then, to my surprise, the most unlikely guy broke the ice. He was not the guy I would have labeled as a “warrior poet” or “noble gentleman”, so his words came as a big surprise.</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">He turned and looked at me and said something to this effect,<em style="border: 0pt none; margin: 0pt; outline: invert none 0pt; padding: 0pt;"> “I’ve been watching you over the past few months and I’ve noticed how consistent you are with what you say and what you do. Your Christianity is real to you and you really live it out. His point… <em style="border: 0pt none; margin: 0pt; outline: invert none 0pt; padding: 0pt;">How can a girl know how to encourage a guy towards godly manhood if she doesn’t have a clue what it’s supposed to look like?</em></span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Pretty good point! I want to extend his challenge to you. Take the time to learn and understand why God created the male and what His purpose is for them. A great place to start would be Eric Ludy’s book titled: <em style="border: 0pt none; margin: 0pt; outline: invert none 0pt; padding: 0pt;">God’s Gift to Women.</em></span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I read his book this past year and was totally inspired to encourage and challenge the guys in my life towards true manhood. I think you would benefit big time from reading it as well!</span></div> <h1 style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <strong style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); border: 0pt none; margin: 0pt; outline: invert none 0pt; padding: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;">2. Challenge guys to a higher standard</span></strong></h1> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Guys seem to rise to the occasion when the bar is set higher. I’ve noticed that guys tend to treat a girl with the level of respect that she expects. Girls who flirt, laugh at crude jokes and dress immodestly many times are treated with less respect. In many cases (not all of course), I’ve observed that even *knuckle head* guys will step it up if a girl acts like a respectable lady.</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I know a set of sisters that attend one of the local universities. The guys will curse and talk in a vulgar way towards the other girls on campus. But whenever these sisters join a group, the guys straighten up and act like gentlemen. They know that these sisters won’t stick around if the guys curse, so the guys rise to the occasion.</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I’ve experienced the exact same thing! I’m amazed by how gentlemanly 98% of guys act if I give them the chance and expect it of them.</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Step it up a notch in your own life and the guys will take note. The women in our culture currently have an extremely low view of men. I rarely hear a good word spoken about men from modern girls. I typically hear girls describe guys as dumb, stupid, lazy, out of it, clueless and more.</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Even if the guy is stupid and lazy, how do you think he feels when he is constantly called those names? Do you think he feels inspired at all to rise up and act like a godly man? My guess is probably not. The lawn looks amazing. You are such a hard worker. Imagine if you started dropping words of encouragement like that to your dad and brothers on a regular basis. They may mock you and they may pretend not to care, but deep down they will take note. Are you willing to take a step out on a limb and do what only a handful of girls are doing? Are you willing to stand apart from the average girl and encourage guys to live to a higher standard?</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="padding: 0px 29px; text-align: left;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Eric Ludy has been around long enough to know how we as girls can encourage godly manhood. Why Women Friends Don't Tell Each Other The Truth

It's not that men are more insightful when it comes to relationships, it's that they tend to be less aware of the need to be diplomatic. Part of the reason for this is that most men don't "hang out" with women in groups, where the main goal is to bolster our self-esteem and empower one another. So they don't instinctively know our culture of mutual support. He was so sure of himself that he offered $100 for each time he used these words. I made a point of sitting with him during our lunch break. You could walk into their office with the cure for cancer, and the first words out of their mouth would be, "Let me explain why that won't work."</span></div> <div style="border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; margin-bottom: 0.9em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"> <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">This is the telltale phrase of negativity. It's emblematic of a need to share negative thoughts, even when they haven't been solicited. "Let me explain why that won't work" is different from adding value--because no value is added. It doesn't mean that what we say is correct or useful.
